Ben Men and Rob Malone’s BTRAX Records welcome the legendary Orlando Voorn for a first EP on the label that features remixes from Altroy & Robben and a track co-produced with Ricky Sinz.
Orlando Voorn is a Dutchman who has long provided a key link to Detroit techno in the States. He has released on the likes of Kevin Saunderson’s KMS and Derrick May’s Fragile as well as having collaborated with Juan Atkins and Blake Baxter. Famous for his ability to make anything from drum &bass to ambient, electro to hip hop and of course quality house and techno, he has come through once again on this latest missive.
‘Marching Through the Underground’ gets things underway in electrifying fashion with its grinding electro grooves and sci-fi chords. It harks back to the earliest days of Cybertron and is a future-retro classic in the making.
‘Open Your Eyes’ features Ricky Sinz, a Chicagoan techno producer and DJ and boss of Sin Factory Records. The track is dark, pounding and filled with tension from the eerie synths that ring out into wide open industrial spaces. It’s a perfect warehouse track, and ‘Monotone Solution’ continues in that vibe with frazzled synths taking you down a shadowy techno rabbit hole that is hypnotic and atmospheric.
Altroy is the pseudonym for TJ Hicks, an American producer, composer and artist born in Harlem and based in Vienna. He tackles ‘Monotone Solution’ and turns it into an intense and high-pressure groove with creepy sound effects and shuffling drums that take you for a trip. Last of all, Robben reworks the same track into something designed to get people on their toes, with crisp boom-bap drums and burrowing acid.
These are four tasteful techno tracks that bring plenty of class to the club.
